Spain rules

Used to satirical (and hurtful) short films such as Españistán or Simiocracia, today I was surprised by a very different production: «La crisis española desde un punto de vista diferente» (Spanish crisis from a different point of view), developed by the company Grant Thornton.

As it’s said in the company’s blog, this video was meant to have an internal use, in order to introduce Spain in a meeting that was being hold in Barcelona for 700 people of the organization coming from around the world.

In no more than 6 minutes, spanish multinationals are acclaimed, and so is society and local economy.  It is especially remarkable the state of tourism: Spain is the second country in the world in terms of touristic incomes; and received more than 57 million tourists in 2011, number that increased in summer 2012.

The funny thing about this facts is that this historical record in tourism has not been reflected in job creation in a region like the Balearic Islands, which more important activity is exactly this one. Even though occupation was the highest, and breaking records such as the number of visitors (almost 2 million tourists in one day), the level of unemployment, for example in july 2012, rised in 6.4% in comparison to july 2011…

Crisis? Which crisis?

This is the video I was talking about (English version with Spanish subtitles).
