Last days we’ve been able to read several news about cuts in Erasmus’ budget. Now it is Spanish celebrities who send a letter explaining theis support to the Programme.
Most worried should be those who want to build Europe. Nor the single European currency (which is blamed for causing the economic crisis and putting prices up), nor the European Constitution (after its “successful” approval), nor the ECB (no comments on this) have been able to create a shared European feeling. UEFA, Euromillions and Eurovision seem the strongest bonds for Europeans, and these are just competitions where everybody wants to win…
Considering that there is a lack of European sense of belonging, programmes such as Erasmus, Leonardo or Eures, are the point of integration and really create Eruopean citizens beyond state borders. If we want to keep building a social Europe, we must follow this path without hesitation.
“Europe is searching itself. It knows that’s its own future lays in its hands. Never again it will that near to the aim. Not to let go the hour of its destiny is its only chance for deliverance.”
